Howard Hodgkin
Irish Museum of Modern Art
A major retrospective of the work of Howard Hodgkin, one of Britain’s leading post-war painters, opens to the public at the Irish Museum of Modern Art on Wednesday 22 February 2006. Howard Hodgkin is a comprehensive survey of the artist’s work, presenting recent works alongside those from earlier decades. It brings together some 50 key paintings, from the 1960s to date, which epitomise the qualities which have made Hodgkin one of the most popular painters of his time – his original use of colour, his ability to straddle so effectively the boundary between representation and abstraction and his masterly evocation and distillation of emotions, memories and events. The exhibition is presented in association with The Irish Times and H&K International.

Howard Hodgkin Paintings
This is the first exhibition to span the entire career of Howard Hodgkin. Hodgkin is widely regarded as one of the most important artists working in Britain today. Bringing together 60 of his evocative and vibrant paintings from the 1950s to the present day, the exhibition provides a rare opportunity to view new work in the context of earlier decades.

HOWARD HODGKIN
This exhibition traces the evolution of Howard Hodgkin’s work over six decades, from the early portraits and interiors of the 1950s and 1960s, to his use of the wooden panel and painted frame in the 1970s, through to his more gestural paintings since the 1980s.

Howard Hodgkin: Paintings 1992-2007
Howard Hodgkin: Paintings 1992-2007 will feature nearly fifty works from private collections and museums in the United States and Great Britain.

Co-organized by the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge and the Yale Center for British Art, the exhibition will open in New Haven in February 2007 and will travel to Cambridge in May. Conceived independently, Howard Hodgkin: Paintings 1992-2007 will complement recent exhibitions and publications, providing a critical coda to the current scholarship on this artists work.

Victoria Art Gallery, Bath

Howard trained and taught at the Bath Academy of Art from 1950  to 1964, but he has never had a show in the city before. Some of his very earliest paintings were entered into Bath Society of Artists exhibitions at the Victoria Art Gallery in the 1950s. One of them, showing a Staff Meeting at Corsham (i.e. the Bath Academy), has been borrowed specially for our show from its usual home in Kettering Art Gallery.
